Independent applied science

How things work, and how they fail.

CAS-LAB Science is an independent one-person lab. I build instruments, models, and teaching tools, take things apart to find out why, and publish the notes and the source as I go.

Instrumentation & measurement

Building, repairing, and characterising analogue and RF hardware — and trusting the measurement.

Materials Science

Making structure, phase behaviour, and microstructure computable and manipulable.

Autonomous systems

Robots that sense, decide, and act — and the failure modes that show up when they do.

sEMG and bioengineering

Surface electromyography from sensing hardware through signal decoding to control.

Astrophotography

Imaging the night sky; the photographs are published as a gallery.

Data, code, and write-ups are public wherever they can be. Good science is reproducible science, and reproducibility starts with sharing the work — including the parts that did not go anywhere.
